Information about Vertigo Treatment

We know just how stressful and disruptive dizziness can be. Vertigo is a common health condition caused by disruptions in the inner ear and can be diagnosed and treated through vestibular physiotherapy.

Because other causes of vertigo can exist, it is important to undergo a thorough screening and assessment to determine whether it is treatable through physiotherapy or requires further investigation.

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)

BPPV is a common vestibular condition affecting the inner ear that can cause sudden dizziness or a sensation of spinning, especially with certain head movements. This happens when tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear, which normally help with balance, become dislodged and move into parts of the ear where they don't belong. These misplaced crystals can confuse the signals sent to the brain, leading to episodes of dizziness, vertigo, and sometimes nausea. If you've ever felt like the world is spinning after rolling over in bed or looking up quickly, BPPV could be the cause.

A trained physiotherapist can guide you through specific manoeuvres, such as the "Epley Manoeuvre", to help move these crystals back to their correct position, reducing or eliminating symptoms. Most people experience significant improvement after just a few sessions, allowing them to regain confidence and return to daily activities without the fear of sudden dizziness.

If you're struggling with these symptoms, know that help is available, and you're not alone in dealing with this challenging but treatable condition.
