Miriam Fletcher
PhysiotherapistMiriam graduated from The Royal Liverpool Hospital College in 1982 and worked in Northern Ireland from 1982 to 1987. In 1987, Miriam and her husband, Michael, emigrated to Australia, coming directly to Hobart, Tasmania – their first choice, and they never regretted it! They now have two adult "Tassie" daughters. Having operated Clarence Hydrotherapy/Physiotherapy Centre in Bellerive for 15 years, Miriam renamed the practice "Clarence Joint Therapy". She moved to 273 Clarence Street, Howrah, in October 2009, having built a more modern hydrotherapy pool with onsite treatment rooms and a rehabilitation gym. After over 40 years, Miriam has reduced her "hands-on" or "in-pool days" treatments to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; on other days, she covers business and pool management. She loves to walk her corgis Cordelia and Krypto, and venture out on the family's electric bikes. She has regularly participated in dragon boat paddling with the Dragons Abreast Tasmania (Pink Ladies) since 2007, where she has coached and steered the boats, taking her to many parts of Australia and some around the world, having fun and making friends.
Alana Garlick
PhysiotherapistWe welcomed Alana to the practice in August 2011. Alana trained in South Australia before starting work at the Royal Hobart Hospital in 2006. In 2009, she commenced working in private practice until the birth of her son Beniah in 2010. Alana has worked part-time at Clarence Joint Therapy since 2012 and has had two more children: daughter Eva in 2013 and son Ezekiel in 2016. Alana enjoys the variety of work at Clarence Joint Therapy, which involves balancing the treatment of clients on land and in the pool with teaching pool classes. Outside of work, Alana likes to keep fit and has participated in various Spartan races. She is looking forward to discovering more adventures in the future.
Billy Leung
PhysiotherapistBilly is a physiotherapist who trained in Hong Kong. He moved to Australia in 2021 for a better lifestyle, and Hobart was luckily the first place he landed. He has experience working in hospitals and rehabilitation, and previously also owned a private practice with two partners in Hong Kong before moving to Tasmania for new experiences. He initially worked in aged care, and later joined Clarence Joint Therapy, which included treating in our custom-built on-site hydrotherapy pool. He also has extensive experience in dry needling and spinal manipulation. He speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
Emily Sharp
PhysiotherapistEmily has recently moved to Hobart from the Blue Mountains to enjoy the seascapes, mountains and beautiful community. Emily studied Physiotherapy in Queensland and has worked in private practice, paediatric and young adult disability services and aquatic physiotherapy. She has a particular interest in working with people with disabilities, paediatrics, and individuals who are non-verbal communicators. She also has a broad range of experience with equipment prescriptions, including wheelchairs, standing frames, walking frames, switch technology, and assistance with communication devices. Outside of work, Emily enjoys a frolic in nature, rock climbing, dance, climate justice work and will be learning to play the cello! Emily speaks English (fluent), Thai (intermediate), and Auslan (beginner – Certificate III).
The staff at PhysioChoice are fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable, and understand that we need to get back to work as soon as possible. I have always had effective treatment for my problems and have recommended PhysioChoice to many friends and clients.

From arthritic conditions and joint pain, to headaches and post-operative rehabilitation. Call us today on (03) 6247 2211 to better understand how we can assist you on your road to recovery!
^Treatment will differ client-to-client. Please call your local practice for more information.
Back and neck pain is one of the most common complaints at our practice. Sitting at a computer can often cause neck pain with accompanying headaches, shoulder tightness, back pain and buttock or leg pain. We can help treat these problems.
We can treat pain and stiffness in the chest, thoracic spine and rib areas. We can also advise in relaxed breathing exercises.
Our experienced Physiotherapists have a range of sub-specialities, which include chronic pain management. We understand the complex nature of chronic pain and the need for a multidisciplinary, biopsychosocial approach. Treatment is tailored and includes education regarding your condition, hands-on therapy, and graded progression of return to functional activities.
Our physiotherapists are trained to perform specialised manoeuvres to assist with dizziness and vertigo. If it is appropriate, you will be given an exercise program that you can do at home. These exercises are individually tailored to your balance symptoms and effectively reduce dizzy symptoms.
Growing pains are caused when bones grow quickly, and the soft tissues struggle to keep up. Children and teenagers usually respond very quickly to treatment. If they continue to complain about persistent pain, medical assessment may be necessary.
Headaches and migraines are often triggered by neck pain or stiffness. Our physiotherapists can offer relief through treatment, along with strategies to help minimise the headaches. Combining treatment with a customised physiotherapy exercise program or dry-needling can also be helpful.
Most joint strains respond well to physiotherapy, enabling faster returns to sports, work, and normal daily activities. We commonly treat sprained ankles, sore knees, painful shoulders, tennis elbow, sprained wrists and fingers, SIJ problems, hip joint, groin pain and jaw pain.
Whether the cause is a sudden tear, a strain, or a muscle imbalance issue, physiotherapy can help by promoting efficient healing, assisting strong scar tissue formation, or strengthening and stretching affected muscles.
Many people will experience osteoarthritis as they age, but the severity can vary from morning stiffness and occasional painful episodes to debilitating pain. Physiotherapy can offer immense improvement and, in many cases, complete and long-lasting relief from pain. Strengthening the muscles is paramount to aging joints to keep them moving in an ideal alignment to reduce pain and improve function.
Overuse injuries generally respond well to physiotherapy, but the key is to get treatment early rather than put up with the pain. Problems such as RSI, tennis elbow and Achilles tendinopathy (a tendon injury) can heal quickly with a specific exercise prog
Pain in the body is often the result of poor posture. We can assist you or your children in improving the body's posture by showing you how to stretch tight muscles, strengthen weak muscles and improve endurance in these muscles. We are experts in core stability, utilising the deep muscles in your torso and neck to help hold you in a good posture.
Our physiotherapists are experienced in treating all types of sporting injuries. We treat problems including patellofemoral pain, hip and groin problems, bursitis and associated tendinopathy, tennis elbow, wrist and ankle sprains, and plantar fasciitis.
